Product Information

Osteoarthritis is a progressive disease, so treatments such as exercise, diet, and pain medications can become less effective over time. Purchase Synvisc from Medical Device Source to replace or supplement these osteoarthritis treatments. Synvisc, also known as hylan G-F 20, is an injectable medical device made from a hyaluronan gel. The hyaluronan in Synvisc comes from chicken combs and is similar to the hyaluronan normally found in the knee and other joints in humans. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a progressive breakdown of cartilage in the joints as well as a lowering of the synovial fluid quality. With this breakdown, there is no protection for the bones that soon start to rub together within the joint, causing inflammation and pain. After you remove excess fluid from the knee joint and inject Synvisc, the knee is filled with high quality fluid that can lubricate and cushion the joint, protecting it from damage and aiding patient mobility. You should give your patients three Synvisc injections, one of them each week. While some patients may notice a difference after the first injection, some patients may need to wait about eight to twelve weeks for maximum pain relief. Your osteoarthritis patients could experience relief from their symptoms for up to about six months after a series of Synvisc injections.

Medical devices made of injectable hyaluronan, such as Synvisc, can cause common side effects such as swelling, pain, and fluid buildup around the knee. More rarely, Synvisc could cause a rash, headache, fever, nausea, or an allergic reaction. You should not inject Synvisc into areas of the body that have an inflammation or a skin disease, or into patients that have circulatory issues or blood clots. Since Synvisc comes from chicken combs, you should not treat patients with Synvisc that are allergic to eggs, feathers, poultry, or other avian products. Do not use skin disinfectants containing ammonium salts, such as benzalkonium chloride, in conjunction with Synvisc injections. For about two days after a Synvisc injection, your patients should avoid strenuous activities such as jogging, playing tennis, lifting heavy objects, or standing for longer than an hour at a time.

When other osteoarthritis treatments, such as diet, exercise, and pain medication, are no longer effective for relieving osteoarthritis symptoms, you can use Synvisc injections to replace or complement these other treatments. The hyaluronan gel in Synvisc can help to lubricate and cushion the knee or other joint for up to about six months, and Synvisc injections can be used on both knees at once and repeated if necessary. Even as osteoarthritis progresses, Synvisc can help patients delay their total knee replacement surgery longer. The Synvisc injections can replace or supplement synovial fluid in the knee, providing lubrication and cushioning to the bones. If your patients have mild to moderate osteoarthritis symptoms, purchase Synvisc from Medical Device Source to provide the relief they need.
